Neurosis on Film
Mary Wild is presenter:
I'm interested in seeing the kind of representation of what is psychoanalytically referred to as neurosis on film. And then how this then gets translated or expressed, manifested on cinema on film. And so what you're going to be getting in terms of content, there will be a lot of theory and film material presented.
My aim is not necessarily to comprehensively resolve the final essential meaning of every film. That is not the aim at all we don't have that kind of time for me to be able to do that and nor is that really necessarily a goal of mine.
I'm more interested in defining neurosis as a conceptual idea. Very much rooted in the understanding of the diagnostic category from the Freudian position, because I consider myself a Freudian. And then seeing where this gets manifested or beautifully illustrated within cinema.
So I'm going to be presenting so more than anything top line textures, top line cinematic textures of neurosis. That I think are relevant in our understanding of how it functions and how it appears, etc.
